Let It Go

Lyrics

Let It Go

(Words and Music by Carol Barbieri)

Well, you’re still keepin’ me awake at night, I can’t do anything right

I thought I had you out of my life a long time ago

Well, I know you are a waste of time, and all these good friends of mine

Are sayin’ “You’ve gotta let it, you’ve gotta let it go!”

Well, you’re still keepin’ me around alright, but all we do is fight

I’m holding on with all of my might, but I’ve got nothin’ to show

Well, I know you are a waste of time, but oh, this poor heart of mine

Is sayin’ “You can’t let him, you can’t let him go.”

 Chorus:

Well, I’ve been drinkin’ too much, and thinkin’ too much

And doin’ too much of what I shouldn’t be doin’, you know

They’re all sayin’, “It’s gonna catch up, you better shape up

‘Cause when you wake up, you’re gonna wish you really hadn’t you know.”

And I’ve been listening to too many sad songs on my radio

They’re sayin’, “You’ve gotta let it, you’ve gotta let it go.”

Well, you’re still takin’ me for such a ride, but darlin’, I’ve got my pride

I know when to let things slide and when to let ’em blow

Well, I know you are a waste of time, but oh, this poor heart of mine

Is sayin’, “You can’t let him, you can’t let him go.”

Well, you’re still takin’ me for such a fool, but darlin’, I know the rules

I don’t want this soundin’ cruel, but you really should know

There’s a man who just went walkin’ by, and oh, he just caught my eye

He’s sayin’, “You’ve gotta let him, you’ve gotta let him go.”

He’s sayin’, “You’ve gotta let it, you’ve gotta let it go.”

You’ve gotta let it, you’ve gotta let it go!

Bittersweet

(Words and Music by Carol Barbieri)

I hear the aching crying of a gull

The peaceful, haunting stirring in the lull

I want to be your lover every night

But I’m promised to another and it just isn’t right

Bitter night

I see your face in every shore bound wave

I know we’ll never pass this way again

So, as I say “goodbye,” I’m kissing you

And though I’m gonna try, I’ll be missing you

Bitter blue

 Bridge:

The night casts a spell whenever we meet

The leaving’s so bitter, but the loving’s so sweet

It’s bittersweet

I feel the wind beside me, summer warm

But it rustles up the feeling of a storm

I look out on the ocean, it’s wild and free, no not like me

And all that I can hope for is a memory

Bittersweet…bittersweet…bittersweet…

I Need a Man

(Words and Music by Carol Barbieri)

I need a man who always shows up on time

A man who’s handsome, romantic, cultured, cool, and refined

I need a man who’s understanding and kind

And who don’t always expect me to be readin’ his mind

Yeah, I need a man who’s just as sweet as can be

So, if you know such a man, please send him to me

I need a man who won’t be giving me grief

A man who isn’t too needy, too greedy, or cheap

I need a man who doesn’t flirt and won’t cheat

And who won’t be callin’ out his old girlfriend’s name in his sleep

Yeah, I need a man who is The World’s Eighth Wonder

So, if you know such a man, give him my telephone number

 Bridge:

“Rough around the edges” never did it for me

I need a real live descendent of a pedigreed breed

A Night in Shining Armor with a PhD in, How to Make a Woman Happy

A little woman like me

I need a man who’s never moody or mean

And whose whole life don’t revolve around his flat TV screen

I need a man who’ll treat me just like a queen

A man who knows how to operate a washing machine

Yeah, I need a man who always cleans up his mess

So, if you know such a man, give him my email address

Bridge:

“Rough around the edges” never did it for me

I need a family man with a royal family tree

A man with a genuine proclivity to want to make a woman happy

A little woman like me

I need a man who’s always eager to please

Who’ll bring me daffodils and chocolate-covered strawberries

A man who don’t have a problem handing over his keys

And who’ll remember my Birthday and our Anniversary

Yeah, I need a man who calls me three times a day

So, if you know such a man, go on and send him my way

Ceasefire

(Words and Music by Carol Barbieri)

I thought you were my enemy,

My rival, and my foe

I ‘d protect myself (so I believed)

By striking the first blow

I knew I’d met my match this time

There was no use denyin’

So I drew myself a Battle Line

And the sparks just started flyin’

(Yeah, the sparks just started flyin’)

I thought I could get close to you

By holding you at bay

But, the only thing I seemed to do

Was push you far away

I had so many memories

Of lost wars in my heart

I guess that made me leery,

Scared, and always on my guard

(Yes, always on my guard)

But now there seems to be no need for

That Battle Line I’d drawn

And if there’s really strength in numbers

Two is surely stronger than One

If you meet me in the middle

There’ll be nowhere left to hide

If you meet me on that Middle Line

’Guess we’ll be on the same side

(Yes, we’ll be on the same side)

 Bridge:

I’m ready to surrender

I am willing to retire

I’m able now to end the War

And declare a Ceasefire

If you try to see the best in me

I’ll find the best in you

And if you’ll be a Friend to me

I’ll be your Best Friend, too

And if we lay our weapons down

And take our fists out of our gloves

And tear and burn the Fortress down

There’ll be nothing left but Love

(We’ll have nothing but Our Love)

 Bridge:

I’m ready now to call a Truce

And hang white ribbons from the barbed wire

I’m ready now to face the Truth

And declare a Ceasefire

Let Me Walk Away

(Words and Music by Carol Barbieri)

Before I spend another night

Waiting by the phone

Before I start believing that I

Can’t make it on my own

Before my heart gets broken by

The careless things you say

Let me walk away…

Before it almost seems

Like I’ve lost my dignity

Before I let false hopes and dreams

Get the best of me

Before my soul starts feeling

Like it’s finally found its mate

Let me walk away…

 Bridge:

You’ve made it crystal clear

That we’re not going anywhere

There is no destination in your eyes

You seem to like the distance

Between the two of us and there

I want to read the road signs

You only want to take the ride…

Let me walk away from you

Why do you make me stay?

It isn’t fair to keep me here

Until you learn to give at least as much as you take…

Before I waste a minute more

Of my precious time

Before I entertain the thought

That you really could be mine

Before I think that wall you’ve built

I could someday penetrate

Let me walk away…

Let me walk away…

Let me walk away…

Let me walk away…

“I Don’t Love You”

(Those Four Little Words)

(Words and Music by Carol Barbieri)

What am I gonna do? (Whoa, whoa…)

I just can’t believe it’s true (Oh, no!)

He said those four little words that sting like a bee

And he pointed those four little words right at me

He said, “I don’t love you.”

’Might swallow a pill or two (or three…)

Or drink away all of my blues (Poor me!)

But arsenic’s not really my cup of tea

So I tried not to take it too personally

When he said, “I don’t love you,” (to me)

 Bridge:

What makes him think he’s so great, anyway?

His big socks stink at the end of the day!

Someday, he’s gonna be fat, bald or gray (or all three)

Then he’ll be wishing that he didn’t say

“I don’t love you,” (to me)

So, here’s what I’m gonna do (Whoa, whoa…)

’Gonna get myself somebody new (a real Romeo)

Somebody handsome and somebody cool

Someone romantic and somebody who’ll

Say, “I love you,” (to me)

Bridge:

He thinks that he’s maybe the Big Cat’s meow

Well, I ain’t that crazy ’bout cats, anyhow

Someday, his nine lives will be almost through

That’s when I’ll call him, and here’s what I’ll do:

I’ll say, “I don’t love you!” (to him)

Yes, that’s what I’m gonna do (Yes, I am.)

’Gonna find myself somebody new (A REAL man.)

Someone more gentle and a whole lot less cruel

’Might have lost a small Tadpole, but it’s a mighty big Pool

Can you believe he said to me (to me, mind you) “I don’t love you!”

 Bridge:

He feels like the Big Fish that just got away

But he’s really the “Lemon” in my lemonade

And a fish ain’t so delicious when it starts to decay

That’s when I’ll reel him in (or E-MAIL him) and say

“I don’t love you” (anymore…)

“I don’t love you” (like before…)

“I don’t love you” (There’s the door...)

“I don’t love you...”

What am I gonna do? (What am I gonna do?)

I just can’t believe it’s true. (I just can’t believe it’s true.)

What am I gonna do? (What am I gonna do?)

I just can’t believe it’s true.  (I just can’t believe it’s true.)

’Cause I love him…(’Cause I love him…)

Really love him…(Really love him…)

’Just can’t trust him.  (’Just can’t trust him.)

But I still love him.

Lonely Night

(Words and Music by Carol Barbieri)

Lonely night, can I have a place to stay?

Do you mind if I stay here with you?

In your arms I feel so safe

The minutes flying by, turning nighttime into day

We try to slow them down

And fill their strange and peaceful space

Lonely heart, forgive me, if I’m wrong

But I need to know the freedom

Of your soft and gentle smile

You know, I’m tryin’ hard, and the ending of a song is sad

But not so sad

As never having sung it for a while

Bridge:

I’m dreamin’

I’m dreamin’ all my dreams for you

I’d give anything to have that night again with you

Lonely day, I’ve been thinkin’ about you

The memory of that night

Keeps running through my mind

I’ll be alright, I’d say, if you show me what to do

And we’ll have the kind of love

We never thought we’d find

That Wall

(Words and Music by Carol Barbieri)

You are a man in love with principle

Against any demon you’d be invincible

When you look in the mirror an honest face smiles back at you

’Cause you’re building a wall that temptation can’t break through

Yes, you’re building a wall that’s rain and fire-proof

You’re building a wall that’s pain and liar-proof

You’re building a wall that embraces faith and truth

Yes, you’re building a wall that embraces you….

Refrain:

But don’t you build that wall so tall, and so wide or one-eyed

That you can’t see the heart that’s waiting on the other side

I am a woman in love with you

Against all reason, rhyme or rule

When I look in the mirror, shameful eyes stare back at me

’Cause you’re building a wall and my frustration can’t break free

You’re building a wall that defaces honesty

You’re building a wall that debases need

You’re building a wall that disgraces indiscriminately

Yes, you’re building a wall that disgraces me…

Refrain:

But don’t you build that wall so tall, or petrified with pride

That you can’t feel the heart that’s breaking on the other side

Bridge:

Your God already knows you’re an angel

Your God already knows I’m a fool

And would your God really send me straight to hell

Just for saying, “I love you”?

We’re only human, in love with different dreams

Against the cold wind, we raise our broken wings

’Cause when we look in the mirror, don’t wanna have to turn away

It gets clearer and clearer, and it will all make sense someday

So I’m building a bridge to take me far away

I’m building a bridge and navigating my feet of clay

I’m building a bridge that’s made of truth and faith

I’m building a bridge to Heaven’s Gate…

Refrain:

’Gonna build that bridge so big, and so strong and so long

That it might, yes it just might be able

To reach over your wall

Time Zone

(Words and Music by Carol Barbieri)

You’re running in a thousand directions

You’re learning how to make the right connections

You’re yearning to make the song fit the rhyme

But darlin’, it’s taking all your time

You’re hiding from a love you know exists

You’re hurting and the pain just persists

You’re working to take it off your mind

You’re arriving but you’re never on time

Bridge:

All I ever did was love you

All I wanted was a small part of you

I’m not the one who hurt you so

So long ago

But I’m the object of her lies

A victim in this Time Zone

Yes, I’m the silent minority

So far down on your list of priorities

I wanna relax you, quench your thirst

But I’ve gotta catch you first

You’re so damn well-rehearsed!

You’re looking for the way to happiness

You’ve living to achieve some great success

You’re giving with your creativity

I’m wanting some of that time for me!

Bridge:

All I ever did was love you

All I wanted was a small part of you

I’m not the one who hurt you so

So long ago

But I’m the object of her lies

A victim in this time zone

I wanna drown your inhibitions

And all your blind ambitions

’Cause none of the love I feel today

Is gonna stand around and wait

Until you’re so damn great!

Hey, hey, hey, hey…
